An Outstanding Teacher
An outstanding teacher creates relationships with their students. This is not to say that they are their friend, but instead are a respected mentor that the students can look up to. Relationships are the foundation upon which good education is built. Fostering mutual respect opens up doors that would otherwise remain closed. The outstanding teacher genuinely cares for their students well-being, and takes steps to learn more about their students past their classroom walls.
An outstanding teacher must be effective at classroom management. To be effective at classroom management, one must take a proactive approach. The first piece of this is establishing expectations. Setting realistic expectations for both behavior and academics enables students to succeed and feel comfortable in the classroom. In addition, one must set consequences if the expectations are not met; the students must understand what the consequences are and that there will be follow-through. Another piece of proactive classroom management revolves around effective planning. An outstanding teacher creates detailed plans for each class in order to minimize dead time and maximize instruction. Finally, an outstanding teacher engages their students in the subject matter and connects it their lives, sparking interest and encouraging cooperation.

In addition, they will teach to all learning styles in order to maximize the potential of each lesson. After teaching each lesson, an outstanding teacher will review the lesson success immediately afterward and identify things that went well as well as things that could be improved through modification or removal.
