Philosophy of Music Education
Through music education, we can lead our students to success. It helps students become hard working, intelligent, motivated, and consistent while teaching the importance of skills such as preparation and flexibility. Through music humans have the opportunity to express themselves in ways that no other discipline offers; it will impact their lives in a way nothing else can.
Music education provides life lessons. It teaches personal responsibility by giving students personal control over how they perform. It shows a direct correlation between effort and end product; personal initiative is valued and encouraged. High expectations are present in everything that we do, whether it be performing, practicing, or simply breathing in. Realistic goals lead to excellence, and as a result, self-confidence.
Music education provides a guided creative process. Through direction and encouragement, students can learn to express themselves in new ways. They transform from people who perform music into true musicians. Our students can touch people's intellect and emotions through their expressive interpretation of their songs. This process of discovery stimulates and energizes the brain in a way that other subject matters often do not.
Music education offers an avenue to a broad range of other related subjects. It pulls together multiple concepts and ties them into a cohesive entity. Music can teach English, foreign languages, math, history, and physical coordination. Music education prepares students for multiple career paths.
Most importantly, music education provides a safe environment for students to grow. They can interact confidently with both peers and teacher, as well as grow personally in moral, mental, and physical capacities without concern for their personal well-being.
Music is more than an art; it is a way of life.
